Borscht...what girl doesn't love a soup that turns pink!

We got lucky in St. Petersburg with a great recommendation for a restaurant close to our hostel. Zoom cafe was AMAZING! Delicious food, menu in english, selection of russian cuisine with a twist and a dessert named 'call your parents cake'! So we basically stalked them, going for 2 meals a day a couple of the days we were in the city. Oh, I almost forgot to metion that they have teddy bears there too! So you can sit with your fluffy friend and have your cold borscht with sour cream, or a million other dishes all served with a sprinkling of dill (they just love that stuff in Russia!)

Foodie Friday

Today's post is all about the sweet side of life. I don't know if I will have enough time here in New York to taste all the goodies they have on offer, but I sure will try my best!

I especially enjoyed having German Chocolate Cake for dinner the other night at Amy's Breads on Bleeker Street(other locations in Hell's Kitchen and Chelsea).

Dylan's Candy Bar on Third Avenue is out of this world and a must for anyone with a sweet tooth or a hankering for some old-time goodies, they've got it all! And the smell is just pure sugar when you walk in...

This shelf is just taunting me, and setting me up for a challenge I hope I won't fail :)

No SATC fanatic/sweet tooth lady's trip to Manhattan would be complete without a visit to the delicious Magnolia Bakery. The morning we got there we were lucky, there were no queues and we doubled up on our order...yum, yum, it's gotta be done! (Credit to Dee for the second shot, thanks!) I finally got to try red velvet cupcakes and boy, they are sweet!

The M&M shop on Times Square is a mecca for all M&M fans (and we certainly had one of those in our group!!!)

This one is for all my peeps, love it!

Tasti-d-lite, fat free frozen goodness (except for the reese's pieces toppings!), 'nuff said!

So, I'll leave you with this thought for the day...

Foodie Friday

So, technically it's not Friday anymore in my home time zone or my holiday time zone...so let's pretend we're in California :)

So far NYC has not disappointed in the food department...I do fear for my waistline after 6 weeks of this kind of eating, but I figure I'll start eating salad every day once my travelling companions go home (yeah right!).

We started the feeding frenzy in a diner in Chelsea for a classic brekkie of omelettes, pancakes and french toast ( I didn't eat all this myself!!). Delicious!

The Famous Cozy Soup and Burger on 4th and Broadway has very friendly Greek staff and did a delicious split pea soup (highly recommended) and this yummy taco salad, apparently a diet friendly option...

Our wonderful guide on the uptown tour recommended Restaurant Row for lunch. We had a super scrumptious lunch at Yum Yum's Thai restaurant, which looks like this...

Sitting in Yum Yum's enjoying one of my favourite pastimes, people watching, I spotted Mr. Big!!! I was completely starstruck...thankfully mamma mia and flip flop were a bit more on the ball and he was gracious enough to have his photo taken...

This just made our trip...he really is very handsome in real life! I used to be more of an Aiden fan but Big really pulled it out of the bag in the end :)

We've also eaten in the Killarney Rose off Wall Street, a nice low key pub for a quiet pint and a chat with the friendly barmen. My dad's friend worked there for 33 years and has some great stories from his time there!

The Dao Palate was a great find on Flatbush, near the 7th Street subway in Brooklyn. It is a pan-Asian vegan restaurant...get the ribs if you go there, it sounds so wrong, but tastes so good! We were just about the only people there...

Close to this is the Burrito Bar and Kitchen which do a mean fresh guacamole and apparently Antonio's do good food but I haven't tried it out yet. And last but not least Jake's Saloon in Chelsea for a fine feed and a chinwag :)
